At the launch of AI for Good, last September, Jan Kees Schakel shared his experiences with the Wildlife Hackathon.

Jan-Kees Schakel is founder and CEO of Sensing Clues and associated researcher at the Knowledge, Information, and Innovation Research Group of the VU University Amsterdam, the Research Group on Complex Collaboration of McGill University, and the Netherlands Defense Academy.

He earned an M.Sc. International Management of Land, Water and Environment from the VHL University of Applied Sciences, an M.Sc. Business Information Systems (cum laude), and a Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam. Combining these educational strands, his work and research concentrate on cross-boundary collaboration needed to tackle emergency and other complex response situations. In particular he is interested in how technology mediates the coordination of information, knowledge and expertise.

Jan-Kees Schakel’s current work and research concentrate on the development and use of sensors to increase situational awareness, and big data analytics to fuel intelligence led operations.
